If you’re unfamliar with Matt Rissi Music, prepared to get famliar. Matt has racked up over 500 gigs across the states in the past 2 decades. He is responsible for the Solar Catherdral events which are known for legendary warehouse parties. Matt throws punches, curveballs and excitement in his DJ’ing and also is a pretty nice guy too.
If you’ve seen Mike DJ, you know what to expect. Acid house, hypnotic deep spaced out jams and mind bending techno. Mike’s music has hit the big stage within the past year or two. His music is currently being played by the likes of The Black Madonna, Ben Sims, Nina Kraviz and Boris Dlugosch to name a few.
You never know what Higgy will bring to the table. Disco, house, techno to electro, it’s always an adventure and of course, a great track selection.

More about the festival:
An in-between city in a flyover state, Iowa City is in the middle of nowhere. But if you stop in for a while, you will be surprised by how much it has to offer. Middle of Nowhere is a celebration of that, highlighting Iowa City’s connections to early electronic music, from experimental sounds to R&B to house to techno. Visual and sonic landscapes combine to create unique aesthetic experiences, some dreamlike, some movement-oriented. Immersive, experimental, recollective, reflective, and full of dance, Middle of Nowhere brings you the feel of warehouse parties and the feel of forest parties, all within city limits, like a lucid dream.

NEW FOR 2017: ON SITE CAMPING! (Limited qty available – 21+)
Every year when new people find out about our festival, we get hundreds of messages asking if it’s camping. We’ve always loved the idea of sort of a ‘hybrid’ camping/city festival experience. Very rarely can you camp at festival that feels like you’re in a forest in the middle of nowhere, then pull out onto the street and you’re just blocks from downtown. We believe it will truly be a one of kind festival this year. Camping allows travelers (and locals!) an easier on-site option that is much cheaper and convenient than hotels. Camping music festivals have their own cultures and tight knit communities, and we are excited to integrate that into 515 Alive. These spaces will be VERY limited. This is not a festival where you are expected to camp, if you want to enjoy the festival the same way you have in past years that’s great! Camping spots will be available to les than ⅓ of our estimated total number of attendees.
We expect to sell out of these. 21+ ONLY
ALL CAMPING PASSES ARE INDIVIDUAL PASSES, NOT SITES
You will not be able to access camping areas without one.

The 515 Alive story:
Before the corporate ran, profit generating machine music festivals started spawning in the United States, the American music industry was united by grassroot passionate musicians and performers who wanted to share the magic of their music in a unique show experience. In 2002, the collaboration of enthusiasts in a small state called Iowa, gave birth to an event called 515 Alive, at the heart of the state’s capital, Des Moines. Despite its obstacles with being one of America’s less populated areas, 515 Alive exploded and grew with the spirit of the unity amongst citywide, statewide, and regional support. 515 Alive began as a block party, and has taken many directions, especially taking strong identity being a symbol of Iowa’s electronic music scene. The festival has also been a canvas for urban arts and urban music, breaking barriers between musical styles. But the most important and dominant type of artist that has been the lifeblood of 515 Alive, are specifically the DJ’s who have made magic building, creating, and performing on those epic stages that gradually improved, year after year.
2017 continues the next generation and 15th Anniversary of 515 Alive Music Festival with a NEW & BEAUITIFUL location right outside of Downtown Des Moines at Water Works Park. We are excited to take a big leap and offer ON SITE CAMPING for the first time ever! This will be a hybrid camping and city festival experience unlike any other. One minute you’ll feel as if you’re in the middle of no where in a beautiful large open field surround by trees with an on site pond, and then you pull out of the festival and you’re on the main road that takes you downtown (2 minute drive). Our move to the park was solidified after long discussions about needing a venue that allows us to expand our vision with the festival and provide a unique and unforgettable experience. Truth be told, we need more room for what we have planned. The new park is absolutely beautiful, almost 10x bigger than our previous space! It’s the ideal location for a festival, open space for the staging and concert area and a flat camping area with trees scattered throughout. The entrance is 1 mile from previous venue. With the amount of space available the possibilities are endless (little easier than working on downtown Des Moines Streets) and we are able to get creative with our staging, art installations, VIP areas, chill-out areas and many other aspects of the event that were difficult to improve on before. We are extremely excited to progress the event further than ever before to ensure that the 15th anniversary is the biggest, the best and the most unforgettable year yet!
